 Welcome to the party.

Welcome to the party.

Because of the recent job change from academia to industry, I have been attending more networking events lately.  Most recently, I attended a local ACT-W conference in Portland. 400 women from many corners of Portland tech.  At these events, I've been delightfully fascinated by the many paths that people arrive at tech:

  • She's been working in marketing but wants to get into UX.
  • Molly has always managed teams, now she just happens to manage developers.
  • Nancy just started her computer engineering degree, taking 1 or 2 classes at a time while working full time.
  • Eileen just did a boot camp, is working a tech support job, and is thinking about becoming a developer.
